NHS gives expected timeframe to reopen Bishop's Castle hospital
The organisation said work is “underway” to address the issues
Shropshire’s NHS says it hopes to reopen a community hospital within “the next three weeks”.
The update comes after Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital was closed last week due to issues with heating at the facility.
A statement from Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (Shropcom) said work is underway but the hospital would remain closed until an interim measure is installed at the site.

It said: “Work to install an interim heating measure at Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital is underway, as work continues to address the issues affecting the hospital’s heating system.
“We currently estimate that the hospital will be ready to reopen to patient care within the next three weeks.
“This is an estimated timeframe, and the hospital will only return to use when it is safe to do so.
“While the interim measure is being installed, we are also assessing the options and requirements for more substantial estates work that is likely to be needed to provide a permanent solution to the heating issues.
“The hospital remains temporarily closed while this essential work is carried out.
“Patients who would otherwise receive care at Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital will continue to be supported through alternative community hospitals or care pathways.”
Shropcom also directly addressed the people of the town, saying: “We understand how important Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital is to local people and recognise the uncertainty this temporary closure may cause.
“We will continue to provide updates as work progresses and further information becomes available.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work towards safely returning the building to use.”
