Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council welcomes new councillor for East Ward

Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is pleased to announce the co-option of Zwelibanzi Radebe's as its newest councillor for East Ward.

The Council received applications from interested candidates and would like to thank everyone who expressed an interest in serving the community.

Cllr Zweli has lived in Newtown for more than eight years and currently works for Tesco whilst also serving as a Union Representative for USDAW.

Originally from South Africa, he brings a unique perspective, a strong sense of community service and a passion for helping local residents.

Speaking about his appointment, Cllr Zweli said: “I am passionate about helping the town by volunteering, sharing my skills, and listening to the community's ideas and experiences. I am ready to work hard with the Town Council to make our community and home better for everyone. I want to help Newtown grow for the benefit of us all who live here.”

Among his priorities are supporting the successful Tidy Newtown Project, advocating on issues affecting residents including parking charges, encouraging greater opportunities and attractions for young people, and helping make Newtown's evening economy safer for everyone.

The vacancy was filled through the co-option process, which is used when no election is called by electors after the publication of a notice of vacancy.
