New roundabout plans for A49 near Ludlow
Plans to build a new roundabout on the A49 have been submitted, ahead of a new housing development that will see the building of 213 new homes.
Another planning application regarding a controversial housing development north of Ludlow has been submitted - this time for the erection of a roundabout.
Plans for the building of 213 homes on Bromfield Road in Ludlow were approved at the end of 2023, more than ten years since plans for the development were first unveiled in 2013.
Twice, the outline proposal was rejected by Shropshire Council's Southern Planning Committee - but a planning inspector approved the scheme in 2015.
Then came five years of delays over the details, with various issues being raised over pedestrian access to the site, which sits between the railway line and the A49.
Now, another application is going back before planners regarding a new roundabout on the A49 which will provide access to the new development.
The latest application states: "Following the approval, further interaction with National Highways resulted in the understanding that the approval would need to be looked again.

"This was with specific regard to the amount of land allowed for a new junction, or traffic island off the A49 to access the approval site.
"In the interim period, Highways England’s standards had been updated, meaning that additional space was required to install any new traffic islands of this type.
"Whilst the traffic island itself was approved as part of the previous submission, it was noted that the land within the red line itself may not allow the new standards for the structural, or supporting element of the traffic island."
The latest application proposes increasing the size of the boundary.
The application is available to view online on Shropshire Council's planning portal using reference number: 24/04716/FUL
