Motorist released from overturned car in Shrewsbury

A motorist was rushed to hospital after being freed from an overturned car after an accident which closed a busy road in Shrophire for an hour.

Firefighters freed the motorist from the 4x4 Nissan Navara, which had overturned and wedged on an embankment by the side of the A5 in Shrewsbury.

The accident, close to the Churncote roundabout, happened just after 4pm yesterday. The motorist was freed from the car and then transferred to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with minor injuries.

The A5 was closed in both directions for more than an hour while the patient was treated and the scene cleared.

Inspector Andy Smith, for West Mercia Police, said: "Fire, ambulance and police attended the scene and then the casualty was removed from the car and taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to only be minor.

"The vehicle had spun over and the person was trapped. There was debris left on the carriageway and the car was resting on an embankment."
