Moment lightning bolt strikes roof sparking huge blaze
The powerful bolt hits the roof of a house
This is the shocking moment a resident captured a bolt of lightning striking her neighbour’s home.
Maggie Day, 25, was filming an intense storm outside her home when she unexpectedly recorded the strike that sparked a fire.
Her footage filmed on 27 May shows the powerful bolt hitting the roof of a house across the road, sending a flash of light through the storm.
Later that evening, video showed the property in Ammanford, Wales, engulfed in flames as firefighters rushed to the scene and worked to bring the blaze under control.
Despite their efforts, the damage was severe, and by the following morning the roof had completely caved in.
Maggie, from Ammanford, Wales, said: "The thunder & lightning was nothing I’ve seen before, so I decided to record to capture the events, but caught the strike to my neighbour's house.
"There were people in the house at the time but I saw them get out quickly.
"The fire brigade arrived within minutes and were able to put out the fire quickly."
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.23pm on Wednesday, May 27th, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Ammanford, Amman Valley, Llandeilo and Morriston Fire Stations were mobilised to an incident in Glanaman.
"The crews responded to a fire at a two-storey, semi-detached domestic property.
"The property had been struck by lightning which ignited a fire on the property’s roof.
"Significant fire damage was caused to the property and the fire spread to a neighbouring property.
"All persons were accounted for and no injuries were reported."
