A motorist narrowly avoided injury after a missile hurled from a Telford footbridge shattered the windscreen of his car.
The motorist was driving his white Suzuki Vitara along the B5072, between The Rock and Dawley Bank, when the unknown object, possibly a rock or a bottle, was thrown at his vehicle.
He was heading from Newdale roundabout towards Old Park roundabout. Damage was also caused to the supporting pillar of the vehicle and the driver's door mirror.
Police in Telford said repairs to the vehicle will cost in the region of £570.
Telford police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield today issued a stern warning to those carrying out this kind of behaviour and appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.
She said: "This reckless act caused significant damage to the vehicle and it was fortunate the object struck the support pillar first, which the motorist believes prevented him from being injured.
"We cannot stress how dangerous this kind of behaviour is. It could cause a serious road traffic collision and subsequently result in serious injury or death.
"If police find anyone taking part in such behaviour they will be arrested and dealt with accordingly."
Anyone with information about the incident, which happened on Sunday at about 1.15am, is asked to call Telford police on 08457 444888.
