Protest bid to save RBL home

Campaigners fighting for the future of Wales's only Royal British Legion care home were due to hold a demonstration today.

Crosfield House in Rhayader is under threat because of a forecasted £500,000 deficit that could force it to close its doors.

Supporters of the 60-bed residential home were set to demonstrate outside County Hall in Llandrindod Wells today, where a Powys County Council meeting is being held to discuss the hall's future.

County councillor for Nantmel, David Evans, said: "We are all very anxious about this - it is one of the town's largest employers and does a splendid job for the residents.

"I can see no reason for them to close it down and build a new one elsewhere."

The council is not expected to vote in favour of providing extra funding to the Legion, which told the authority it needed to pay 30 per cent more for its residents at the homes.
