Thousands of people are expected to descend on a Mid Wales town in the coming week as it turns the clock back to a simpler time.

Llandrindod Wells will be hosting its 26th annual Victorian Festival from Saturday with plenty of activities and shows on offer for visitors.

During the nine-day event, people will promenade along the streets in Victorian outfits and participate in many of the organised activities.

There are a number of new events this year including a young farmers concert and a Henley Royal Regatta alongside street entertainers and competitions.

Also taking place for the first time in 2007 is the town's Victorian tennis tournament on Sunday morning.

Players of all standards are encouraged to go along and try playing at the tennis courts adjacent to the rear of the pavilion.

The young thespians of the Llandrindod Wells Amateur Children's Theatre are producing a play entitled Cruel Times by Kaye Umansky as their contribution to this year's Victorian Festival. The play is about what it was like for different levels of society to live in Victorian times, both rich and poor.

Children participating in the play range from six to 16 years old and it will be staged at the Albert Hall at 7pm on Wednesday.

The Victorian Festival will be officially opened on Saturday at 1pm at the town's bandstand by Powys County Council chairman David Evans.
