Meet the new Miss Earth England Fire from Shrewsbury

The woman from Shropshire did the county proud

Miss Earth Shrewsbury narrowly missed out on winning a national title last month.

Nell Massin, 23, represented the Shropshire town at the Miss Earth England finals over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Ms Massin left the competition, which took place in Hertford, officially styled as Miss Earth England Fire - the name bestowed to the person who came fourth place.

Miss Earth is a beauty pageant that focuses on environmental awareness.

It places importance on educating, inspiring and encouraging people to care for the planet.

Ms Massin, who was previously Miss Shropshire, is originally from France.

However, the now Miss Earth England Fire has lived in Shropshire for five years.

Talking to the Shropshire Star about just missing out on the coveted main Miss Earth England title, Ms Massin said: “At first, I’ll be honest, I was a little disappointed.

“Of course, when you enter a competition, you’re aiming for that first-place title, and I think it’s natural to feel a little deflated when it doesn’t quite go the way you had imagined.”

She went on to say: “However, having had some time to come home, settle back into normal life and actually let everything sink in, I’ve realised just how much I’ve achieved.

“I’m incredibly proud of myself for putting myself out there, stepping outside of my comfort zone.

“Being Miss Earth England Fire is still a huge achievement, and I’m really excited to make the most of the opportunity and everything that comes with it.”

Ms Massin wants to use her platform to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the UK’s waterways.

The new Miss Earth England Fire has said she is looking to try and make “water testing more affordable” as well as “easier to understand”.

The former Miss Shropshire celebrated after the Miss Earth England finals by “enjoying a cheeky glass of wine” and spending time with family and friends.

She added: “One of my favourite parts of the weekend, though, was celebrating with all of the other girls in the competition.

“We spent so much time together and really bonded throughout the weekend, so there was a genuine feeling of happiness for one another.

“For me, that’s what pageantry is really about, lifting one another up, celebrating each other’s achievements and building friendships and connections along the way.

“I feel very lucky to have shared the experience with such an amazing group of women.”

She said her friends and family “are absolutely over the moon and incredibly proud” of her.

On his flight home, Ms Massin’s father even kept showing photos of her to the cabin crew, she said.
