Market Drayton 10k organiser hails successful event with emotional thank you
“Every year this race reminds me what community really means.”
Nearly 2,000 people took part in the Market Drayton 10k, with organisers hailing another successful event.
Race director Tim Beckett said more than 1,900 runners were registered for the event on Sunday (May 10) in a year of record sign-ups, along with more than 160 children taking part in the fun run.

Mr Beckett said the organisers extended their heartfelt thanks to everyone in Market Drayton who supported the event: residents who lined the streets, families who cheered from doorsteps, and the many people who helped create an unforgettable atmosphere.

He said: “Delivering an event of this scale takes extraordinary teamwork.
“This year, more than 120 volunteers played a vital role from marshals and water station crews to registration teams, baggage handlers, and finish‑line support.

“A special thank you goes to the local Scouts and Guides, whose hard work, organisation, and enthusiasm each year make a huge difference behind the scenes and out on the course.
“The race also continues to be proudly supported by Market Drayton’s thriving food industry and local businesses, whose generosity enhances the experience for every runner.”

Mr Beckett said key contributions this year included those from lead sponsor The Compleat Food Group, as well as Pork Farms and Walls pastry products, Müller, Joules Brewery, Culina and Cool Runnings Shropshire.
This year’s event continued its proud tradition of raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to the hearts of many in the community.
Mr Beckett, who has been open about his own experience since being diagnosed with cancer, said: “Every year this race reminds me what community really means. I’m still undergoing treatment, but the support I’ve felt from our volunteers, our runners, and this town has been extraordinary.
“Seeing thousands come together, not just to run but to raise money for Macmillan, means more than I can ever express. Market Drayton should be incredibly proud.”
The 10k race was won by Andrew Miles in a time of 32 minutes 6 seconds. The first lady home was Rachel Bourne in a time of 37 minutes 23 seconds.
