Crash involving a lorry closes road

Motorists are facing significant disruption after a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) forced the closure of the M6 in both directions in Warwickshire on Sunday afternoon.

According to National Highways West Midlands, the motorway has been shut between Junction 1 at Rugby and the M1/A14 interchange while emergency services respond to the incident.

It was reported just before 5.30pm.

Traffic officers and emergency crews are currently at the scene dealing with the collision, the circumstances of which have not yet been disclosed.

The closure has led to severe congestion on surrounding routes, with delays of around 40 minutes reported on approaches to the affected section of motorway.
