Long-awaited full repairs will be carried out on a Mid Wales road near allotments

Long-awaited repairs to re-surface a road at the side of Knighton allotments will be carried out.

Temporary works to fill in pot holes on the road were carried out earlier this year, thanks to a resident who offered to do the work.

But at a recent Knighton Town Council meeting members agreed to now go ahead with a full re-surfacing of the road.

Town clerk Lorian Craggs-Alferoff said she and the mayor had reached out to contractors to get some up-to-date quotes for the work. She said it had been difficult to get people to come out and to give a quote.

But now a contractor had come forward and given them a quote of £7,950 or £9580 with VAT. The town clerk said there is £10,000 in the budget for the work.

The clerk said that would be for a full re-surfacing of the road but she was not sure when they would be able to fit the work in.

Councillor Tom Taylor said he had met the contractors and they said it would probably be done in early Autumn.

The works have been held up for several years after a debate about whether the road was the town council’s responsibility.

But about three years ago, it was established that the town council own that area of land and some local properties also use the road for access.

Last year the council had quotes for the permanent work but they did not have the money in the budget to go ahead, so they initially accepted the offer of a resident to do some patching work there.

At the time, Councillor Holly Adams-Evans said: “ I know the patching is not going to last but it will help in the interim so cars could use it safely. It is quite bad and I think we have left it long enough and I think it would be bad if we said we were not going to do it again.”

Members agreed at the June meeting to go ahead with the full resurfacing work.
