Kids Planet Day Nurseries is launching a new childcare facility at the old Chiquito's restaurant on Battlefield Road in Harlescott, Shrewsbury.

The group, which has 54 nurseries across the North West and Midlands, will be arriving in Shrewsbury this summer.

Chiquito's closed in May last year after owners The Restaurant Group appointed administrators in March, saying about 60 Chiquito restaurants were set to be affected due to the increasing pressures brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Bosses never confirmed the closure, but staff say they were told of the closure of Shrewsbury's Chiquito's and Frankie & Benny's, and signage was removed from the building.

The site is going to be having a full refit and is expected to open in June.

The nursery group was established in 2008 by Clare Roberts and her father John Hoban.

She said: "We're delighted to be taking the Kids Planet group to Shropshire. As always, we aim to offer the best possible start for children in a safe and nurturing environment where they can explore, discover and learn.

"We offer families the highest quality of care and look forward to welcoming our first children in June."

The single-storey nursery which will open 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and has 120 places for babies through to preschool, will include a sensory room, wrap-around outdoor play areas and age-specific rooms for 0–5-year-olds.
