Joanne Gill, 50, from Alberbury, died on Friday despite the efforts of passers-by and paramedics to save her. Her family say they have been comforted knowing that she was not alone.

The accident happened on the A458 near Bicton when two vehicles travelling towards Shrewsbury - including Mrs Gill's - collided, and in turn hit a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result of that impact, Mrs Gill's car then also hit a vehicle with a trailer that was parked in a lay-by.

Mrs Gill was left with serious injuries and died at the scene.

Paying tribute to his mother, David Gill said the family wanted to thank those who helped at the scene.

"In particular there was a gentleman who got a blanket from his car and stayed with her talking to her, comforting her," he said.

"It means a great deal to us that, although she could not be saved, she was not alone and that people were with her. We want to also thank the emergency services who did all they could to save her.

"It is good to know that there are some kind people out there."

He said that the whole family was in shock.

Mrs Gill was married to husband, Phillip and had two sons, David and Phillip junior, and a daughter, Jacky. She was also a grandma to Bethany.

She also had four sisters.

"When their mother died, as the eldest, she took on the motherly role," David said.

"She gave them help whenever they needed it and they are devastated, as we all are, by her death."

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash or anyone who may be able to help in the ongoing investigation to come forward.

"If you have any information or dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation, please contact us via our website, westmercia.police.uk, or by telephone via 101 quoting incident number 272i of 21 May 2021," a spokesman said.

Flowers have been laid at the scene of the tragedy.
