Emergency services called after reports of woman in Shrewsbury river

Emergency services were called to reports of a woman in the River Severn in Shrewsbury overnight.

Fire appliances went to fields at The Crescent after 999 calls came in at 1.27am.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the woman had managed to get to safety herself before firefighters arrived and the crews were stood down just before 2am.

The fire service has specialist water safety officers and safety boats used for operations across the county. They are also deployed further afield to help other brigades.
