Shrewsbury woman Laura Roberts has been having chemotherapy since June, for cancer at first thought to be in her pancreas but since discovered to be in her liver.

She is awaiting further scans but she and her family have not wasted a minute since her diagnosis, making memories for her three daughters thanks to generous people across the country and even abroad who have collectively donated more than £16,000.

The Roberts family wanted to show their own gratitude by taking on a challenge, setting out on a 10k walk, all dressed in pink for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life.

Laura's sister Chelsea said: "Since Laura’s diagnosis, we have made some amazing family memories, which we will treasure forever – from hiring our own pub (The Boars Head, Bishops Castle) to trips to the seaside.

"And we have a few more planned, providing that the Covid measures allow us to do these. And this has only been possible because of the kind people of Shrewsbury for donating to Laura’s page.

"Therefore we really wanted to give something back, so we decided that we would take part in Cancer Research’s Race for Life by doing a sponsored walk, Laura and all the family.

Mark, Laura's father, was persuaded to wear a pink tutu for the Race for Life

"Laura was adamant that she wanted to take part, so we started the walk from Laura's address and then walked to The Corbet Arms in Uffington, and then back to Laura's address.

"Laura was in her wheelchair most of the way but did walk for a few moments. But unfortunately she was unable to make it the whole way, due to having chemotherapy on Friday and this tiring her out.

"It took us around two hours to complete the walk and we met some extremely kind people during it. Our dad was also roped into wearing a pink tutu, which was very funny.

"We have currently raised over £700 [for Cancer Research UK] and we still have sponsors coming in. People can sponsor us at fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/roberts-and-co-family-walk."
