Hundreds of people were due to dress up as superheroes and take on Severn Hospice's Kapow! on Saturday at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury.

However the charity has been left with no choice but to cancel the event as Storm Hannah hits the UK bringing heavy rain and gusts of up to 65mph.

Events fundraising officer Hannah Gamston, from Severn Hospice, said: “We’re so sorry to disappoint everyone looking forward to Kapow! and we’ve worked really hard to get a new date in as soon as possible – Sunday, June 16.

“The weather forecast is predicting winds of more than 40mph and there’s a weather warning in place for Shropshire for Saturday so we had to make a call; it’s just too risky to put up and use the obstacles in those conditions.

“We’re so grateful to everyone at the West Mid Showground and our event partner Extreme Adventure for helping us sort a new date and for everyone’s support and understanding. We really hope people can make the new date, which could be a perfect Father’s Day out.”

Severn Hospice will refund the entry fee if people cannot make the new date.

There is a whole host of events in Shropshire this weekend that will have to contend with Storm Hannah which brings a yellow weather warning.

The Shropshire Mud Run, which takes place on Saturday at Eaton Mascott Hall, is set to get even muddier and protestors in Shrewsbury making a stand against changes to the county's bus services will have to bring umbrellas.

Thankfully Shrewsbury Fake Festival is held under a giant marquee but those in Telford Town Park for the annual Spring into St Georges Day event are likely to get wet.

Shrewsbury's Cartoon Festival in The Square is still set to go ahead

Amateur athletes taking part in Chirk Triathlon on Sunday will have to take extra care on the bike section of the course.

A Napoleonic re-enactment is also due to go ahead at Whittington Castle on Sunday.
