Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra will spend 15 minutes aboard a new boat for disabled people before officially naming her Shropshire Lady.

The ceremony on July 21 will take place at Lyneal Wharf near Ellesmere and it will be a special moment for Lord Lieutenant Sir Algernon Heber-Percy who was also joint founder of the Lyneal Trust. With his wife, Lady Jane Heber-Percy, both are trustees of the Walker Trust and of Lord Leverhulme’s Charitable Trust, both major contributors to the Lyneal Trust boats.

The Lyneal Trust offers canal boat and cottage holidays for people with disabilities and their carers. On the big day, seven-years-old Lily Robert will present flowers to the Princess.

Before naming the latest craft, Her Royal Highness will be at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry where she will open the new theatre and oncology complex. Among the guests greeting the Princess will be Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire.

Patients and staff will be among those meeting Princess Alexandra who will also present the Dame Agnes Hunt Nursing Award.
