The former England captain was driven to Llanrhaeder FC's pitch, near Oswestry, with the club even sharing a joke that he had signed to play for the Spar Mid Wales League team.

He then met with shocked fans before boarding a helicopter parked on the pitch which had landed to fly him away.

Catrin Roberts, a nurse, said: "We saw the helicopter land on the local football field, so being inquisitive, we went to have a look.

"The two pilots stayed in the helicopter throughout, so we couldn't quiz them to why they were there.

"One of the locals eventually went up to ask, to be told 'we can't tell you'.

"So obviously, we all got a bit suspicious.Someone Googled the numbers on the helicopter and found that it was a private one, and then someone found out that Beckham was rumoured to be filming at our local famous Waterfall.

"We all got rather excited about this and thought we'd better stick around in case.

"Ten minutes later two blacked out vehicles turned up by the football field with various people coming out of them. Then I spotted Becks walking towards the football field with his baseball hat on and on his phone.

"He didn't really look at the crowds just straight to the helicopter, so I presumed he would fly straight off, but fair play, he came back out and stood there for about 15 minutes taking photos with all us locals.

"He was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. A real gent. I'm still buzzing."

But there were some fans who were left disappointed after missing seeing one of the most well known faces on the planet in Llanrhaeder-ym-Mochnant.
