Llantysilio Mountain blaze spreads to Horseshoe Pass

A fire that has been smouldering underground for more than a week has spread to the popular Horseshoe pass above Llangollen.

The fire began on July 18 on Llantysilio Mountain.

On Wednesday afternoon it reignited and spread across the hillside to the Horseshoe Pass.

Dozens of firefighters from across north Wales were tackling the blaze.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from as far away as Chester and the Shropshire border.

Local resident Emma Howe captured these photos of the fire as it spread in a line across the peat and the gorse from Pentredwr.

She has asked if supplies for the firefighters spending long hours on the hillside can be dropped off at the fire station.

Earlier this week the Shropshire based Stans Superstore, which has a shop in Llangollen, donated bottled water for the crews.
