Shropshire Star readers continue to show their generosity as donations to our toy appeal break the 500 barrier.

A toy vacuum cleaner, ironing board, pram and two dolls houses are among the latest items donated to this year's appeal.

It is the third year running we have joined forces with Storage King in Shrewsbury to spread a little festive joy to children who might be finding Christmas a difficult time of year.

The appeal has been backed by celebrities including former Only Fools and Horses star John Challis, actor and radio presenter Cel Spellman, and former world boxing champion Richie Woodhall.

This year we are supporting five different organisations, who will all receive a share of the gifts our readers have kindly donated.

The Movement Centre at Gobowen, near Oswestry, which offers pioneering therapies for children with mobility problems, The Harry Johnson Trust, which supports youngsters with cancer, and Hope House Children's Hospice at Morda, near Oswestry will all benefit. Telford and Wrekin children's services and Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals trust children's ward will also receive some of the gifts.

To support this year's appeal, please bring brand new toys, games, books, and other gifts suitable for children and teenagers to any of our collection points across the county.

Shropshire Star editor Martin Wright thanked everyone who had donated to the appeal so far, and hoped readers would continue to offer their support.

"For the third year running, we continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity people in this county," he said.

"It shows what a generous area this is, and I would urge people to keep the toys rolling in and make it a Christmas to remember for children less fortunate than ourselves."
