The Rock Project Shropshire, was named BCA Children’s Franchise of the Year in the awards which recognise those businesses that educate, support or provide activities for future generations.

The contemporary music school which teaches youngsters aged seven-18 how to play guitar, bass, drums and sing before creating their own band was also shortlisted for the Activities for Children and Education for Children Categories titles.

Lisa Wordley who runs The Rock Project Shrewsbury said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award and to have been shortlisted in more categories than any other organisation that competed.

“This is the first time we have entered the awards and we are privileged to have been recognised in this way.

“It is confirmation that people recognise the good work that The Rock Project does to inspire young people and encourage them to develop skills as budding young musicians.”

The grand final took place at a black-tie presentation dinner for several hundred guests at The Park Inn Hotel.

Businesses of all shapes and sizes entered the awards from schools and nurseries to sports clubs and cookery classes.

After submitting a report on The Rock Project, Lisa went before a panel of judges before welcoming an adjudicator to a music session.

The sessions, which are held at The Barnabas Centre, Longden Coleham Road, Shrewsbury every Monday and Tuesday from 4.15pm includes an hour of tuition by professional gigging musicians on the student’s chosen instrument followed by an hour of playing as a band.
