Llandrindod Wells Town Council pays almost £1,400 for membership of One Voice Wales

Powys town council pays almost £1,400 for annual One Voice Wales membership renewal

Llandrindod Wells Town Council has agreed to renew its membership of One Voice Wales from April.

Town clerk Jane Johnston said One Voice Wales is the only representative body for the council as a body.

The council agreed to pay £1,393 for its membership

Jane said although the town council had not called on One Voice Wales for help recently she would recommend renewing its membership because it is very valuable for the council.

“It is very valuable to us as a council. We have used them and from many points of view it is a benefit to us.”

Llandrindod Wells Mayor Councillor Steve Deeks-D’Silva said; “They have not heard a lot from us recently, they are probably having withdrawal symptoms but most of the parish and town councils in Wales are members of it.”

Councillor Sian Meredudd added; “As a One Voice Wales representative for many years it is a very valuable organisation and I think we should have someone going to their meetings.”

Chief Executive Lyn Cadwallader said in a letter to the council that the past year has seen many positive developments to the organisation’s services and for the community and town council sector in general, which they believe adds significantly to the value for money offered by One Voice Wales membership.

The organisation said it continues to represent the sector in a wide variety of ways,- by meeting regularly with the Minister for Finance and Local Government, representing the sector on the Local Government Partnership Council and they have maintained and enhanced their working relationships with the Welsh Government, Welsh Local Government Association and the WCVA.

It continues to make significant contributions to public policy developments through representation on several Welsh Government advisory panels and was successful in a funding bid to recruit a digital project manager and a cost of living crisis support team.

The organisation also provides free legal advice, an advice and support service, training for members and staff, general information, and a monthly newsletter.

The council agreed to re-join One Voice Wales.
