The Mid Wales town with the 'most beautiful' bus stops
Knighton’s bus stops are the most beautiful in Wales, says mayor
Knighton has two of the most beautiful bus stops in Wales, the mayor claims.
Knighton Mayor Councillor Tom Taylor made the claim after he spent his mayor’s allowance on some planters and helped to secure a grant for others.
His allowance has paid for two planters and plants for the Cwrt y Clawdd bus stop.
Meanwhile after opening the Resilient Powys conference for town and community councillors and community groups at the Knighton Community Centre recently he learnt of a grant available.
He passed the information onto Councillor Holly Adams-Evans, who got to work on it immediately and successfully applied for additional planters, which arrived last week.
Councillor Taylor said; “Well done and many thanks Holly. We now have the two most beautiful bus stops in Wales!
“Previously the bus station at Bowling Green Lane was a horrible place to wait for a bus and was often vandalised and littered.
“Since the renovation and flowers no vandalism and very little littering has taken place. “Since the improvement in the bus station and rerouting most of buses around the western side of town, patronage has increased by 25%, though there is concern that the recent withdrawal of the 17.50 bus from Ludlow will see a drop of usage of this service as the last return from Ludlow is 15.55.
“The 738/740 service is only subsidised in England and has to be commercially viable for the extension into Wales to Knighton.”

He said he has also opened the St David’s Day celebration at the Comm on March 1 and it was a well organised and enjoyable event.
Councillor Taylor thanked members of the Community Centre Committee for putting it on.
He said two Knighton projects are featured in 50+ Big Ideas for Powys, which can get funding. The projects are Dark Skies and a stage at Pinner’s Hole.
“Several people have put forward ideas for the stage in Pinner’s Hole so I have booked the Civic Centre for Wednesday, March 25 for interested persons to join a working group to make progress on this exciting project,” he said
