'It was like a bomb': Lightning hits Telford house as deluge hits Shropshire
The incident came amid scores of lightning strikes across the region.
A neighbour described the sound of a “bomb going off” as lightning stuck a Telford home last night.
The incident came as storms broke over Shropshire following weeks of successive heatwaves.
Amid the deluge lightning was seen across the county, with forks of electricity raining down on Telford and the surrounding area.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Edith Close, off Southall Road near Brookside, after the incident at around 7.25am.
Two crews were sent to the scene with a neighbour describing how the roof of the property was left smouldering from the strike.

The fire crews used hosereel jets to make sure the fire was out and then removed roof tiles to check it had not spread.

This morning tiles were visibly missing from the roof of the property at the front and rear.
One neighbour told how he had been watching the storm on a lightning app in the kitchen when he heard a sound “like a bomb going off”.

He said the power had gone off instantly and described running to check what had happened and seeing smoke coming from the roof.
He said: “I just thought ‘what the hell was that’, it was like an explosion.”
He explained that he immediately rang 999 but the property’s owners had already contacted the emergency service, who were on their way.
The neighbour told how the smoke appeared to die down with the fire service going up to check the tiles and remove them for access to examine the roof space.
He added that neighbours had gathered round to offer assistance to the family from the property and check whether they were okay.
