Interactive screens could soon be on Builth Wells’ high street – if grant money is secured.

Builth Wells Town Council has applied for £72,000 of funding to enhance public places in the town.

Builth Wells Town Clerk Louise Hammond told members at a recent meeting that she had submitted the grant application.

She said if they are successful the money could be used to install interactive information screens in the town, a shelter at the Groe and some of it may also be spent on installing pay as you go turnstiles in the public toilets on the Groe.

“Hopefully we will find out soon if we have been successful,” she said.

Powys County Council has received £1.5 million from the UK Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund to be distributed across 17 towns in the county between 2025-26 and 2026-27.

This 100% capital funding aims to revitalize high streets, enhance community assets, and improve public spaces to foster community pride, often managed through local town councils.

The funding will be shared across 17 towns: Brecon, Builth Wells, Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Llanidloes, Llanwrtyd Wells, Machynlleth, Newtown, Presteigne, Rhayader, Talgarth, Welshpool, and Ystradgynlais.

Funding is designated for capital projects including improving public spaces, refurbishing community facilities, and enhancing local infrastructure
