I visited Telford’s abandoned amphitheatre ahead of major revival plans
The former venue in Telford town park was used to host live music but fell into disrepair
Groundwork has finished that will see work begin next month to rebuild and bring back to life an amphitheatre in Telford Town Park.
Telford and Wrekin Council is in the process of restoring its famed amphitheatre with the aim of using it to host a number of free performances in the summer.

In its heyday, during the 1980s, the amphitheatre located off Silkin Way, was a vibrant cultural hub which hosted regular live gigs and performances, before later closing in the 1990s.
It then fell into disrepair but the popular venue, by Randlay Pool in Telford Town Park, is being restored to its former glory by Telford & Wrekin Council who want to revive the outdoor events space for shows, performances and family events.

Plans for the rejuvenation of the site were proposed last year.

Images show how much work needs to be done, despite the initial works that have taken place over the last few months to clear and prepare the amphitheatre site ready for the restoration to start.

Local contractor Pave Aways is to begin work next month to turn the aging bowl into a functioning entertainment hub.
The main restoration is expected to be completed in July.

To mark the opening a weekend of free family fun is planned at the amphitheatre for July 18 and 19 - at the start of the school summer holidays.
Several shows are also planned for the amphitheatre throughout the summer as part of the Telford Theatre On Tour programme.
