It said it had been called to the incident at around 1pm and an update said it was a fire “involving underground sub station causing a localised power cut”.
It said the incident had been left in care of National Grid engineers.
A spokesman for National Grid said: "A high voltage cable fault caused a small fire at a substation on Ennerdale Close in Telford at 12.58pm today, resulting in a power cut affecting 2,442 properties.
"Our engineers attended quickly and, working closely with the emergency services, the situation was made safe. As of 2.20pm, power has been restored to over 2,000 customers, and we are working to restore supplies to the remaining properties as soon as possible this afternoon.
