How long will the heatwave last in Shropshire and the West Midlands?

Monday is set to be a “record-breaker” according to the Met Office.

Shropshire and the West Midlands are currently basking in glorious sunshine.

With temperatures at the weekend in the high 20s across much of the West Midlands and Shropshire, forecasters say the mercury is only going to keep on rising.

The Met Office say temperatures will continue to climb throughout the weekend, when “exceptional heat” may break records for the warmest day in May and the hottest bank holiday Monday.

Already the UK has seen the hottest day of the year so far on Saturday when the village of Frittenden, in Kent, hit 30.5C.

It was the first time this year that the UK had passed 30C. The last time that happened in May was in 2012.

But if you are getting a bit hot under the collar and are hankering for a little bit of cooler air to gust through Shropshire or the West Midlands - you may be in for a bit of a wait.

The heatwave is expected to peak on Monday, with the Met Office saying: “Temperatures may reach 33C across parts of southern and central England, with the potential to rival or exceed existing records for late May.”

For Shropshire they are forecasting highs of 31 C on Monday, while in Birmingham and some parts of the West Midlands are set to hit 33 C on the bank holiday.

But the sunshine isn’t going to disappear any time soon.

The Met Office predicts that temperatures will stay in the high 20s across much of Shropshire and the West Midlands until at least Thursday.

But cloud cover towards the end of the week, may finally see temperatures fall, but not by much.

For those in Shropshire, temperatures may drop below 25 C by Friday, with next weekend promising to be cooler still - although highs of 24 C are still predicted.

In the West Midlands, temperatures are also set to steadily fall towards the end of next week with highs of 25 C predicted for next weekend.
