Second sewage leak at Telford hospital's new £27 million unit

Sewage has again leaked at the new £27 million Women and Children's Unit at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.
Hospital governors admitted there was a "minor leak" near to the nurses' station on the children's ward yesterday morning.
It was caused by a blocked waste pipe and has led to renewed calls for people at the centre to think about what they are flushing away.
A leak was reported in November.
Cathy Smith, women and children's care group director for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: "We have put in place a number of measures in an attempt to minimise the potential for any blockages, such as increasing water flow and installing improved signs which reiterate what items can be put down toilets and into the general waste and what the clinical bins should be used for.
"We continue to educate patients and remind staff about when clinical bins and regular bins should be used and the consequence of inappropriate items finding their way into the drainage system and also to look at other ways of mitigating any potential problems.
"Unfortunately, in this instance the waste pipe had become blocked and this resulted in a minor leak.
"This small leak occurred near to the nurses' station on the children's ward and was dealt with by our estates department.
"We would like to reiterate that any leak, however small, can have an unpleasant impact on patients, visitors and staff and apologise for any inconvenience. We would again ask people to think about what they are flushing away and familiarise themselves with the information provided."
