The family of Zac Oliver, from Broseley, are aiming to raise £500,000 to send the youngster to Philadelphia for treatment for a rare form of blood cancer called near haploid.

He is thought to be the only boy in the country with the condition, and since the appeal was launched dozens of events, donations and fundraisers have taken place across Shropshire and beyond.

Over the weekend a collection took place at Telford Park Run, with the Ironbridge Gorge Museum also turning its furnaces red for Zac.

A team of fundraisers also trekked up the Wrekin, while another event took place at the Lamb Inn.

Meanwhile, an evening with Steve Bull at Ludlow Football Stadium will raise money for the cause.

On Friday, more than 60 schools and upwards of 160 businesses, including supermarkets, restaurants and factories, took part in the 'Wear Red for Zac' day, raising thousands of pounds for the appeal.

A Twitter account that publishes updates on Zac's condition – @ZacAttacksBigC – posted yesterday that he had gone back into hospital for 48 hours, due to a spiked temperature.
