Grade II-listed Bridgnorth hotel set for conversion into four homes
The bed and breakfast could be turned into four new homes if plans are approved.
A Bridgnorth bed and breakfast could be turned into four residential properties under new plans submitted to Shropshire Council.
An application has been lodged to convert The Croft on St Mary’s Street into one three‑bedroom house, one one‑bedroom flat and two two‑bedroom flats.
The building, which sits on one of the town’s best‑preserved historic streets in the town, is Grade II listed.

Documents submitted with the plans state that the building has historically operated as a hotel, bed and breakfast, and manager’s house, but demand has fallen sharply.
“With the event of the Covid pandemic and a proliferation of Airbnb in the area, the uptake of the current accommodation is severely limited,” it states, adding that residential conversion would provide “a sustainable use that will help retain the building in a usable form for the future” .
11 hotel rooms would be lost as part of the change of use, but documents state the external appearance would remain “largely unchanged”.
The property currently relies on on‑street parking on St Mary’s Street and nearby public car parks, no changes are proposed to parking arrangements.
The full proposal, which is open for public consultation until April 20, is available to view online on Shropshire Council’s planning portal using reference number: 26/01110/FUL
