Renowned geology professor to speak at Heart of Wales Geopark event
Top geology professor to give a lecture at Heart of Wales Geopark annual meeting
A renowned geology professor from Durham University will speak at a Heart of Wales Geopark event.
The annual general meeting of the Heart of Wales Geopark will be held on Saturday 11 April, at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod.
Doors open at 2pm, and proceedings will start at 2:30pm with a lecture called, “An Ordovician Odyssey from diversification to extinction”, by Professor David Harper of Durham University.
Prof. Harper has worked on Ordovician rocks all over the world for many years, and is an extremely engaging speaker.
The talk will last about one hour, and will be followed by the short AGM. The AGM will finish around 4pm.
The talk plus AGM are open to all although obviously, only trustees will be able to vote at the AGM. There is no charge for the event, but donations to support the work of the geopark would be gratefully received.
The Heart of Wales Geopark (registered charity number 1208355; https://heartofwalesgeopark.org.uk/) was set up in 2024 as a way of educating the general public about the world-class geology of the area of mid-Wales around Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells.
The geology of the area is astounding and unique, capturing life and environments around a volcanic island 460 million years ago.
The geology has also shaped the biodiversity, history and culture of the area, and still does today
The Heart of Wales Geopark exists to help understand this extraordinary lost world and its modern impacts.
The AGM is an opportunity to find out more about the geopark and its work, and the geopark activities over the past year.
