Face of prolific Telford shoplifter jailed after racking up more than 200 offences

Connor Heneghan was sentenced on Thursday at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Police have released an image of the prolific Telford shoplifter who was this week jailed for two years and two months after pleading guilty to more than 30 shop thefts.

Connor Heneghan was sentenced on Thursday at Shrewsbury Crown Court for 37 counts of shop theft between March and July of this year.

The court heard how the 28-year-old had 20 previous convictions for 176 offences, including more than 100 shop thefts before his latest crime spree.

As well as being jailed, Heneghan was handed a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which will come into effect once he is released from prison.

The CBO means he cannot enter any Co-Op store in Telford, Tesco Express on Park Lane, Woodside and Brunel Road, Mallinslee, Sainsbury's on Forge Retail Park, Telford, Aldi in Madeley, and Greggs on Anstice Road, Madeley

Heneghan must also not refuse to leave a premises if asked to do so by someone of authority, as part of the order.

Inspector Rich Jones from West Mercia Police said: “I welcome the sentence handed down to Heneghan, whose persistent offending has had a significant impact on retail staff, businesses and the wider community.

“Shop theft is not a victimless crime. Repeat offending places considerable strain on retailers and can leave employees feeling distressed and intimidated.

“Through the work of our officers and our partners, we were able to build a strong case which has resulted in both a custodial sentence and a Criminal Behaviour Order being imposed.

“The five-year order will provide additional protection for local businesses and gives officers further powers to take action should Heneghan continue to target retailers when he is released from prison.

“We remain committed to tackling repeat offenders and supporting businesses across Telford by taking robust action against those who repeatedly commit crime in our communities.”
