A growing litter picking group has been given a welcome boost thanks to donations from Shropshire businesses.

The Bridgnorth Litter Picking Club has more than 65 volunteers, who now have grab sticks, hi-vis jackets and industrial bin liners thanks to TFM Superstore in Northgate and the Special Cider Company.

Volunteers in the club have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure the town remains a clean and tidy place and will now benefit from their new equipment.

Given a new lease of life by Bridgnorth town councillor Julia Buckley, the group provides a network of like-minded people who can coordinate their efforts across the town.

Julia Jackson, of the cider company, and Stuart Brown, of TFM, reached out to the group after seeing the worthwhile efforts of volunteers.

Stuart said: "TFM likes to support local concerns and with what the volunteers are doing out there with litter picking, we felt this was a worthwhile cause.

"It's pretty horrendous out there at the moment with litter, so what this club is doing to help out is fantastic and it's all off their own backs.

"It's a worthwhile cause to keep the town as clean and tidy as possible."

Councillor Buckley, who represents, East ward, added: "This equipment is really useful from a safety perspective.

"People have to litter pick alongside roads and these jackets really help keep us safe.

"We also encourage volunteers not to pick up anything sharp with their hands, and any drug waste is reported to the council, so these grabbers will be a great addition.

"Safety is so important as volunteers are giving up their time freely so we can't afford to have any accidents.

"It's great that so many local businesses and groups have reached out to us.

"We're also set to work with Wrekin Housing Trust and the town's football and rowing clubs. Keith Alderson Butchers and Cafe Zero have also reached out to us."
