Based at Pengwern Boat Club the event offers people the opportunity to watch from the banks of the river in the Quarry as participants do their best to master the unique, tiny and nearly-spherical boats.

The format for the event sees 48 teams competing for the title - with four people per team.

Teams relay-race across the river in their coracles - the single person, circular boats with one oar to steer and paddle.

After several heats, quarter finals and semi finals, the winners of the final race become world champions.

Jayney Davies, chair of the coracle committee said: “Get your teams in, we can lend you a coracle to get practicing ready for September and you can be competitive on the day.”

This year’s event is being sponsored by the National Wedding Show, which has also supported the event in the past.
