Two Powys youngsters make national writing competition finals

Two youngsters from a Powys school have made the national finals of a writing competition.

Students from Ysgol Calon Cymru with campuses in Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells, have entered the Rotary Young Writers Competition, run locally by Builth Wells Rotary Club for many years.

The results over the years have been commendable.

The theme this year was ‘Happiness in Nature’.

The school’s winning entry in the intermediate section came from Martha Jones while the winning entry in the senior section was from Matilda Batten.

Both entries went forward to the District competition where they both took first place in their categories.

The judges said “the standard of work produced has been outstanding.”

The two entries have now been entered in the coming National Final Competition.
