Staff and pupils at a Telford primary school are celebrating after it was awarded an an "outstanding" rating by church inspectors.

John Fletcher of Madeley Primary School, in Telford, is linked to the Church of England and the Methodist denominations.

An inspection earlier this year found that the school was meeting the needs of all the children, well led with effective management, and that the impact of collective worship was good. The National Society Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools Report stated that: "At every level the leadership and management of the school is driven by authentic Christian principles and practice. The school's governors upheld the school's Christian foundation as this new school was established.

"They purposefully appointed a headteacher who would lead the school to improve its provision for pupils academically, spiritually, socially and culturally.

"There is great clarity in terms of priorities for school improvement identified by the school's leadership team and this is informed by rigorous and reflective self-assessment.

"Practical solutions are found that lead to improved outcomes for all pupils. The appointment of learning mentors and increased non-contact time for the special educational needs co-ordinator has led to specific intervention programmes with assessed impact for pupils with special educational needs."

Speaking in the newsletter Madeley Matters, head Matthew Gould stated: "I am immensely proud of the work that we as a whole school do to address the needs of our children and families. The result of the inspection is just rewards for everyone involved with the school and reinforces our drive to ensure that children are given the best possible opportunities in all areas."

The school created in 2011 is based, in Upper Road, Madeley, and was given a "good" Ofsted rating in 2013.

This was its first SIAMS inspection.
