Back2school project at Powys foodbank to help struggling families
Knighton and Presteigne Foodbank is offering urgent help for families facing financial hardship as their finances are stretched with buying school uniform and added ‘essentials’.
The start of the new school year significantly puts a strain on already hard pressed families and finding money for school uniform plus added extras can be difficult if you are on low wages, working tax credits, disability benefits or claiming Universal Credit.
So the food bank has started a project to supply school items such as calculators, geometry sets, pens, pencils, pencil cases, backpacks and lunch boxes.

Helen Anderson, manager of the Knighton and Presteigne foodbank, said; “Families have told us that buying school uniform and shoes for their children has left them with no spare money for other items and in some cases, left them without enough money for food and laundry products.
“As a result of generous financial donations, the food bank is undertaking a Back2School project and has purchased non-uniform items such as scientific calculators, geometry sets, pens, pencils and ring binders for secondary school students.
“In addition, for primary school children, we have bought backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles and pencil cases. After all, who doesn’t love a new pencil case?

“No referral is required to access the Back2School project and we encourage any family struggling with buying additional resources to contact Helen, in confidence.”
