Dust from farms sparks fire fears from drivers on M54
Two field fires reported along the motorway turned out to be dust from farm machines.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said they have received a number of reports of field fires near the M54 that have turned out to be false alarms caused by dust.
The fire service said they were alerted to what a caller thought was a fire along the M54 at 1.08pm on Tuesday.
The report said there was a blaze in a field between J3 and J2 of the motorway but fire crews discovered this was ”dust from fields due to farm machinery”.
Then just before 3pm, a call came in of a field fire at a solar farm in Limekiln Lane, Wellington, which is next to the M54.
But the fire service said this too “was dust from farm machinery”.
