Waste energy company Encyclis is building the plant on former derelict land in Fryers Road in the Beechdale area of the town.

The state-of-the art facility, which is due to be up and running in three years' time, is expected to use combustion technology to convert about 480,000 tonnes of waste annually into enough electricity to power around 90,000 homes.

The scheme is part of Walsall's £1.5 billion inward investment programme which is currently seeing a number of developments taking shape in a move that aims to generate over 4,000 employment opportunities and create 1,000 new homes.

Encyclis bosses attracted support from the West Midlands Combined Authority and Walsall Council for the development.
