Developer plans for 110 new homes near Oswestry hospital

A developer has submitted plans to build more than 100 new homes on the outskirts of a village near Oswestry.

Developers Shropshire Homes have revealed plans to build 110 new homes on agricultural fields on the outskirts of Whittington near Oswestry.

The new development would be built to the east of North Drive in Park Hall, on an area of land that has been earmarked for development in Shropshire Council's emerging Local Plan.

The site is located approximately three miles to the northeast of Oswestry, sitting between the A5 to the west and Whittington Road to the east. East and west of the site are agricultural fields, with residential properties to the south and The Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital to the north.

The plans for 110 new homes take up two parcels of the wider allocation site for 240 potential homes identified in the Draft Local Plan.If approved, the development would be made up of 98 private and 12 reserved for social housing.

Accommodation has also been earmarked for workers of the nearby hospital and the elderly. Shropshire Homes said that the site would "meet identified housing needs" for many groups including first-time buyers, families, elderly people and key workers.

The plans also include two large "informal green spaces" and two smaller public open spaces. An existing pond to the south of the site would also be enhanced, and new planting provided "sitewide".

The full application is currently open for consultation until December 12, and is available to view online on Shropshire Council's planning portal, using reference number: 24/04332/FUL
