Defibrillator and bleed kit plan for Wellington building society

Nationwide Building Society has lodged a planning application to place cabinets for a defibrillator and a bleed kit in New Street, Wellington.

A Shropshire town is set to get another defibrillator if council planners approve.

Nationwide Building Society has lodged a planning application to place cabinets for a defibrillator and a bleed kit in New Street, Wellington.

It is in the town’s conservation area.

There are already four of the life saving kits in the central part of the town and a number of others in the wider area.

Planners have been told that Nationwide Building Society is “committed to supporting the communities they serve, with branches located at the centre of high streets across the UK.”

The company aims to install the life savings equipment to the outside walls of some of its branches.

“We have proposed that the cabinets are fixed in locations that, whilst prominent, have limited impact on the appearance of the conservation area,” the applicants write.

They add that the benefits of installing the cabinets “outweighs any harm to the appearance of the conservation area.”

Council experts in built heritage conservation and historic environments will be asked for their views as part of a consultation exercise.

Details of the plan can be seen on the Telford & Wrekin Council planning portal with the reference TWC/2026/0480
