Daring fundraisers raise £10,000 for Powys Health Charity by skydiving to mark 30th anniversary
A team of daring fundraisers has raised £10,000 for Powys Health Charity after completing a series of tandem skydives to mark the charity's 30th anniversary.
The fundraising challenge was originally scheduled to take place at Swansea Airport on July 26 2026. However, adverse weather conditions resulted in the event being postponed on two occasions. Despite the delays, participants remained committed to the challenge and completed their jumps between August and October.
Fundraisers spent several months securing sponsorship, organising fundraising activities and raising awareness of Powys Health Charity's work.
Their combined efforts have generated £10,000 to support projects, services, equipment and enhancements that benefit patients, staff and communities across Powys.
Head of Charity, Martin O’Brien also took part in doing a skydive, speaking after his jump, he said “It was scary, thrilling, exciting and so much fun all rolled in to one breath taking moment. Even though we were hurtling toward the ground at 125mph during free fall, it felt as though you were completely motionless. The clear blue skies meant we could see for miles, taking in the beauty of the Swansea and Gower coastline below is something I will never forget.”
Participant Sam Powell said: “This weekend, I took on an unforgettable challenge by completing a 15,000ft skydive in aid of Powys Health Charity.
“Despite feeling nervous beforehand, I was determined to conquer my fears and make a difference for a fantastic cause. The day couldn't have been better, with beautiful weather in Swansea and stunning views from the aircraft.
“From start to finish, the event was exceptionally well organised, and the charity team were incredibly supportive, helping everyone feel at ease. Taking that leap from 15,000ft was both exhilarating and empowering, and the experience is one I'll never forget. I'm proud to have supported Powys Health Charity and grateful to everyone who donated and cheered me on.”
Powys Health Charity would like to thank everyone who supported the skydive through donations, sponsorship and encouragement.
The charity would also like to thank GoSkydive, Swansea for its support and professionalism throughout the event.
As the charity celebrates 30 years of supporting healthcare services across Powys, the anniversary skydive has been one of a number of fundraising activities taking place throughout the year to mark the milestone.
