Woman found with bank card in another name jailed for breaching modern slavery order

This order means she is subject to strict conditions.
A woman from Birmingham has been jailed for breaching an order designed to protect people from modern slavery, following a significant investigation by Operation Fearless officers.
Lanlan Guo, 35, is subject of a Slavery Trafficking Risk Order, after a previous investigation into modern slavery in the Southside area of Birmingham.
On patrol in the area last Monday (23 March), Fearless officers spotted Guo, and had grounds to search her.

They discovered a bank card in someone else’s name, which due to the order, she was prohibited from having, so she was arrested.
At Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday (26 March), Guo, of Essex Street, pleaded guilty to breaching the order and was sentenced to nine months in prison.
PC Tobias Butterworth, from Operation Fearless, said: “Along with our colleagues in the Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation Team, we are working through a significant amount of intelligence around exploitation, modern slavery, and brothels.
“Risk orders are put in place for important reasons, and Guo knew the conditions imposed on her – so she has rightly been sent to prison for breaking it.”
Det Insp Tom Lyons added: “We know that organised criminality has been a concern in Southside, and since we expanded our operation to the area, we’ve been determined to crack down on it – securing some significant results including closing brothels and jailing those responsible for running them.
“At the heart of this is our commitment to protecting vulnerable people, and we will continue to work with our partners to do this.
“Anyone who has concerns or information about this type of crime should please get in touch with us.”
Since launching in Erdington in January last year, and then expanding to Southside, Operation Fearless officers have made more than 300 arrests as they continue to act on the public’s priorities.
