Trumpet-playing, vodka-drinking boyfriend possessed by 'demon' kicked his girlfriend and broke her nose as she tried to run from him

A trumpet-playing, vodka-swilling boyfriend who looked like he was possessed by "a demon” kicked his girlfriend in the face, breaking her nose, as she tried to run away from him.

Arkadiusz Lubisz, aged 43, emerged naked from his home in Telford when police arrived to arrest him after he batter his girlfriend and told her to get out of his house in an unprovoked, booze-fuelled rage.

He also possessed a pistol that fired tear gas, and threatened to “shoot everyone”.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that on the evening of May 13 this year, Lubisz was drinking with a friend and playing the trumpet before he asked his partner to go to the shop and get some more vodka.

She went out for the alcohol, brought it back and left it in the house, before popping out again for about 15 minutes.

When she arrived back Lubisz was on his own.

He opened the door and became “aggressive” to a neighbour, who described him as looking like he was “having a demon”. Lubisz’s partner asked him to go inside and sit down.

Later on she heard a “bang” outside, and found Lubisz had fallen. She brought him inside and assessed injuries to his head, before he fell asleep on the sofa.

Shortly after, he woke up and pushed her against a bathroom door. She tried to calm him down and suggested having a cigarette.

“The defendant was saying he would kill everyone,” said Richard Davenport, prosecuting. “He said he would get the gun and shoot everyone. He said he would shoot them ‘like a bird’. She thought it was a real threat.”

Lubisz’s partner went to bed, but he followed her, grabbed her hair and pulled her “with full strength”.

“He was shouting: ‘F***ing out my house!’,” said Mr Davenport.

Lubisz kicked her and she fell to the floor, before he grabbed her hair and dragged her towards the stairs.

He was holding her hair with one hand and punching her head with the other.

“She thought he was going to throw her down the stairs,” said Mr Davenport.

The attack continued downstairs and Lubisz banged her head against a kitchen cupboard.

'Thought she was going to be strangled'

He took his belt from his trousers and looped it and told her to “kneel down”.

“She thought she would be strangled,” Mr Davenport said.

The victim then saw an opportunity to flee so grabbed her phone and attempted to escape.

But she dropped the phone and, as she bent down to pick it up, Lubisz kicked her in the face, breaking her nose.

She managed to escape to a next door neighbour, who was already calling the police having heard what was going on.

When officers arrived, Lubisz came downstairs naked, sporting injuries to his head.

He was arrested but denied the assault when he was interviewed by police.

Police also found a 9mm pistol at the property, designed to fire blanks and tear gas.

“These tear gas firing weapons are available and legal in some European countries, but not in Britain,” Mr Davenport said.

Lubisz, of Newfield Drive, Trench, Telford, was found guilty after trial of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats to kill. He pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon. He has one previous conviction for drink driving.

He had served seven months in prison on remand before his sentencing.

Lubisz elected to represent himself in court and did not add anything further after Recorder David Lock KC indicated he was considering giving him a suspended sentence.

Recorder Lock told Lubisz: “You committed a serious assault against your girlfriend.

“You fail to take responsibility for your actions despite you being the only person who could have inflicted those injuries on her that evening.

“It is clear to me that you have a problem with alcohol, and when drunk, can be violent.”

Recorder Lock sentenced Lubisz to two years in prison, suspended for two years, 150 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation activity days.

He also ordered Lubisz to pay the victim £1,000 in compensation.

“She’s worried you are going to come after her,” Recorder Lock told Lubisz. “Her injuries may have healed but the psychological effects of the assault will be far more long lasting.”

He ordered forfeiture and destruction of the gun, and made Lubisz subject of a 10-year restraining order, banning him from contacting his victim or her son.
