Telford shoplifter, 35, stole pork pie and meal deal in Co-op thefts

Magistrates order thief to pay compensation after he stole three times in a fortnight.

A shoplifter who stole from Co-op three times in a fortnight has been ordered to pay compensation.

Craig McCourt, aged 35, lifted items including a meal deal, a pork pie and a drink when he targeted the convenience chain in Telford in September this year.

He first took £40 worth of grocery items on September 14.

On September 23, McCourt stole a chilled drink worth £4.

He then lifted a meal deal and a pork pie on September 28 this year.

McCourt, of Bishopdale, Brookside, Telford, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to theft from a shop.

Magistrates ordered McCourt to pay £52 in compensation and made him subject of a six-month conditional discharge.

That means he faces no further punishment for the offence, but could be resentenced more harshly for it if he reoffends in that timeframe.

No further orders for costs were made.
