Road ban for Telford teen who drove after taking cannabis

Financial penalties also imposed by magistrates over motoring offence.

A teen motorist who drove after taking cannabis has been handed a road ban.

Gethin Crossman, aged 18, drove a Volkswagen Polo on Hadley Park Road, Telford on April 16 this year.

A drugs test found that Crossman had 2.6 micrograms of Delta 9 THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit, accounting for the possibility of accidental exposure, is 2mcg.

Crossman, of Woodhouse Lane, Horsehay, Telford, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the specified legal limit.

Magistrates banned Crossman from driving for 12 months and fined him £123.

Crossman was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £49 victim surcharge, bringing his total court bill to £257.
