Pro driver, 63, caught speeding in Telford in powerful Audi avoids ban
Offender receives points on his licence and four-figure legal bill.
A professional driver who was caught doing 83mph in a 50mph zone has avoided a road ban.
Paul Drummond, aged, 63, was speeding in a high-powered Audi SQ5 on the A464 between junction 4 of the M54 and Randlay roundabout, Telford on March 21 this year.
Drummond, of Summer House Drive, Hadley, Telford, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to exceeding a 50 mph speed limit in contravention of a local traffic order.
Martin McNamara, mitigating, said Drummond has been a driver for Euro Car Parts for 10 years.
He also said Drummond needs to keep hold of his licence so he can visit his rental properties.
“He’s a very good driver who has had a moment of stupidity,” Mr McNamara said.
Magistrates fined Drummond £807 and ordered him to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £323 victim surcharge, bringing his total legal bill to £1,215.
They also ordered for Drummond’s driving licence to be endorsed with six penalty points.
