Motorist, 54, who took cannabis before driving in Shropshire gets road ban

Magistrates also impose fine and court costs over driving offence

A motorist who took cannabis before driving has been handed a road ban.

Jaswant Manik, aged 54, drove a BMW 3 Series on Newport Road, Albrighton on October 10 last year.

A drugs test found Manik had 3.6 micrograms of Delta 9 THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit, accounting for the possibility of accidental exposure, is 2mcg.

Manik, of Slim Avenue, Bilston, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the specified legal limit.

Magistrates banned Manik from driving for 12 months and fined him £120.

Manik was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £48 victim surcharge, leaving him with a total bill to pay of £253.
